Catherine O’Connor is the owner of The Garden Gate on the east side of Inishbofin. The Garden Gate specialises in seaside plants, handmade indoor decor, handmade Christmas decorations, and handwoven scarves, wraps, table runners, and cushions.
Catherine is the weaver and designer of Bofin Weaves. She hand weaves all her creations on a rigid heddle loom. Catherine’s weavings are inspired by the landscape of Inishbofin. Inspired by the island’s beauty in colours and patterns and her love of weaving, each piece is “one of a kind’….”,handwoven “…and created on the island.
Catherine is a member of the Irish Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers. Her weaving journey began in 2019 with the support of family and friends. Catherine’s workshops will give you a beautiful introduction to weaving and you will leave, taking with you a special piece of Inishbofin.
